History of the Province

The Provincial Grand Lodge of Buckinghamshire was constituted under the authority of a Patent presented in Grand Lodge on the Sixth day of June 1881.

It was presented by the Right Honourable John Major Henniker-Major, 5th Baron Henniker, Most Worshipful Grand Mark Mason of England and Wales (as he was then styled), to Right Worshipful Brother the Reverend John Studholme Brownrigg MA of the College of St Mary Magdelene in the Unversity of Cambridge and Rector of Mulsoe in the County of Buckinghamshire, as the Provincial Grand Master.

The Provincial Grand Lodge was formed and the Provincial Grand Master Installed according to ancient form at Newport Pagnell on the Twelfth day of September 1882 by (his father) R.W.Bro General John Studholme Brownrigg C.B. P.G.W.

In Buckinghamshire, there are at present 18 Mark Lodges and 10 Royal Ark Mariner Lodges, details of which can be found either on this website or in the Buckinghamshire Masonic Directory.
